5 Canva Features I Use Constantly as a Clinician Entrepreneur

If you’re a BCBA, SLP, therapist, or clinician building an online business - there’s a good chance Canva is your new best friend.

From CEU promotions to digital downloads, webinar slides to website graphics, Canva gives you the power to look professional without hiring a designer or spending hours on design decisions.

Over the years, I’ve tested dozens of tools, but Canva is the one I keep coming back to. Why? Because it helps you stay on-brand, save time, and show up consistently.

Today, I’m sharing 5 Canva tools I use all the time, plus exactly how to use them to grow your brand and your business.

1. Create Bold, Branded Images with BG Remover + Outline Effect

These two image features are my most used. They're a great way to make images pop on social and marketing content without complicated instructions.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Upload your image to Canva

  • Click the image > “Edit Photo” > “Background Remover” (Pro feature)

  • Once the background is removed, go to “Edit Photo” again

  • Choose the “Shadows” effect > Select “Outline”

  • Turn the outline white (or your brand color), adjust size/spread to your liking and bam! Instant sticker effect.

Use this on:

  • CEU promo graphics

  • Sales page visuals

  • Instagram stories or social media posts

This combo not only looks polished, it helps your content stand out from the noise.

2. Build a Brand Kit to Save Time (and Stay Consistent)

If you're still manually typing in your hex codes or hunting down your logo every time you make a post… please stop.

Canva’s Brand Kit feature lets you load your colors, fonts, logos, and graphics once, so you can apply them instantly to any new design.

How to set it up:

  • Go to “Brand” in the left menu

  • Upload your logos, select your brand fonts, and add up to 3 color palettes

  • Use these presets in any design by clicking “Styles” on the left panel

Use the “Shuffle” button under Styles to preview how different combinations of your brand colors and fonts will look across your design. This is a great way to keep things fresh while staying on-brand.

3. Resize for Every Platform (Without Redesigning)

You do not need to create a new post for every platform.

With Canva’s “Resize” feature (Pro), you can instantly repurpose a graphic for Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, and email - without rebuilding it from scratch.

How to use it:

  • Open your design

  • Click “Resize” in the top toolbar

  • Select your target platform(s) > Click “Copy & Resize”

  • Tweak layout if needed...and you’re done

As an avid batch creator, this one feature has saved me hours and helped keep my brand looking clean across every channel.

4. Use AI Image Generator for Unique, On-Brand Visuals

Ever struggle to find a photo that actually represents your work?

Canva’s AI Image Generator can create visuals that match your niche, your tone, and your message, especially helpful for CEUs or coaching content that’s hard to visualize with stock photos.

How to use it:

  • Click “Apps” > “Text to Image”

  • Type in your prompt (e.g. “female clinician on laptop with sticky notes and Diet Coke”)

  • Choose a style and let Canva generate options

  • Drop your image into your design, edit as needed

This is especially helpful when your audience is tired of the same overused stock images.

5. Record Presentations Straight From Canva

If you’re building a CEU, mini-course, or lead magnet webinar, this tool makes life so easy.

Canva lets you record your screen and presentation with voice and video, all from one place.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Create your slides in Canva

  • Click “Present” > Choose “Present and Record”

  • Enable your camera and microphone

  • Record in real-time, then download or share the link

Perfect for:

  • CEUs

  • Email list freebies

  • On-demand workshops

  • Client onboarding or internal SOPs

A few quick tips:

You can edit your videos in QuickTime after you download.

You can turn 'off' the camera function if you don't want your face in the recording.

Canva Can Support Your Entire Brand

You don’t need to be a designer to build a visual brand that looks professional and drives conversions. Canva gives you everything you need to:

  • Stay consistent

  • Save time

  • Make your offers stand out

  • Build an audience that recognizes and trusts you
